Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren insists that the Magpies cannot afford to underestimate bottom placed Aston Villa when they face off at St James’ Park this Saturday.
Remi Garde’s Villans currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table on six points after a rotten start to the campaign. However, McClaren is aware of how quickly a team’s fortunes can change in football, citing Newcastle’s recent resurrection as a prime example.
Speaking to The Chronicle, the 54-year-old said:
“People were talking about us in the same way three weeks ago.
“Aston Villa are exactly the same.
Things can quickly change and they have players who can do that.

McClaren was full of praise for the travelling Toon Army after they cheered the Magpies on to an impressive 2-1 victory at Spurs last weekend, and the United boss has called upon the Geordie faithful to rally the team to victory once again this weekend:
“We have to be at our best, the players and fans as well.
They have to get behind the team and create a fantastic atmosphere from beginning to end and we have to give a performance that will make them proud of us.
“Three weeks ago it was all different.
“That’s the way football can change and it changes quickly.
“But we know it can slip through your fingers as quickly as it came.
“We have to make sure we keep our feet on the ground and keep working.
“Three in a row is quite unique but something we will be going for.”
