Newcastle United transfer target Andros Townsend is reportedly ‘intrigued’ by the prospect of a January move to Tyneside.
The Tottenham Hotspur winger has not made a first-team appearance for Spurs in over two months after falling massively out of favour with manager Mauricio Pochettino, and The London Evening Standard report that the North Londoners are prepared to sell the unsettled 24-year-old for a cut-price fee in the upcoming window.
Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy rebuffed summer bids of around £12million for Townsend, however, with the winger now viewed as being surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane, The Lilywhites have dropped their asking price to around the £6-7m mark.

Newcastle’s interest in Townsend has been well documented in recent weeks, and Magpies’ head coach Steve McClaren is believed to hold the England international in extremely high regard.
The Standard Sport understand that Townsend would be highly receptive to an official approach from Newcastle in the January window, and the pacy wide man would jump at the chance of resurrecting his career on Tyneside ahead of this summer’s European Championships.
Newcastle are expected to be rivalled by Premier League foes Sunderland, Aston Villa and West Brom in their pursuit of Townsend. However, McClaren will be buoyed by the news that the winger currently favours a switch to St James’ Park.
