Newcastle United have secured back-to-back victories for the first time in over a year courtesy of Ayoze Perez’s last minute heroics at White Hart Lane.
The Magpies had a first-half to forget, summed up when Fabricio Coloccini lost his man from a corner and allowed Eric Dier to head home shortly before half-time.
After the break, Newcastle were the better side and looked much more threatening, with Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum causing Spurs a number of problems.
Chances fell for Papiss Cisse and Siem de Jong, though it was certainly a day to forget for the duo as neither forward were able to find the back of the net today.
They were squandering chances and McClaren was forced to his bench and substitute the pair for Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez, which proved to be a superb decision.
Within ninety seconds of entering the field, Mitrovic had found the back of the net, after Chancel Mbemba’s headed effort eventually fell to the Serbian on the line.
As the clock continued to count down, Newcastle’s chances of snatching a winner shortened and the game looked destined to finish as a draw.
Up stepped Ayoze Perez. The young Spaniard chested down Mitrovic’s headed knock on, in the 3rd minute of stoppage time, before cooly slotting past Hugo Lloris to secure Newcastle’s fourth win of the season.
