Following the news that Newcastle will play away to the in-form Watford in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup, head coach Steve McClaren has promised that his rejuvenated side will be ready for the clash.
The club promised to take all cup competitions seriously when the Steve McClaren era commenced back in the summer, but this led to the Magpies being knocked out at the early stages of the Capital One Cup – losing 1-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
But, after a stunning 2-0 home victory against Liverpool last weekend, McClaren has promised to prepare fully for the illustrious cup competition.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the former England boss discussed the tie:
Away from home against a Premier League team – it’s a tough draw.
“We’re playing a good team who are strong at home and we’ll have to be at our very best to win.”
“But that’s a long way off and there will be a lot of water under the bridge before then. Come the second weekend of January, we’ll be ready.”
Considering that the Hornets overcame Newcastle 2-1 at their own stomping ground earlier this season, McClaren and his resurged ensemble will have to be at their best to progress to the next stage of the competition.
