Williamson recalled from Wolves loan

Mike Williamson has been recalled from his successful loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers, after Jamaal Lascelles picked up a minor injury during Newcastle’s dismal defeat to Crystal Palace.

Williamson impressed during his five game loan spell at Molineux and received high praise from Wolves manager Kenny Jackett.

The 6’4″ stopper, who was once labeled as ‘Iron Mike’, has played 150 times for the Magpies, but saw his time on Tyneside all but ended due to the signings of Lascelles and Mbemba.

However, with Newcastle leaking goals left, right and centre, the 32-year-old may be handed the opportunity to prove his doubters wrong at St. James’ Park.

The Toon have not put a timescale on Lascelles return and with Williamson being recalled a month early, we can only expect that Jamaal will be unavailable for at least two games.

Williamson  joined Newcastle from Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee in 2010 and, after an impressive start to life with the Magpies, he signed a five-and-a-half-year contract extension with the club in December of that year.
