Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat has issued a further rallying call in order to turn the club’s fortunes around.
The Magpies slumped to another woeful defeat on Saturday at Crystal Palace, and it leaves them languishing at the foot of the table in 19th place.
Head coach Steve McClaren has came under a lot of scrutiny after the performance, with many fans calling for the 53-year-old’s head.
But Janmaat, speaking to The Chronicle, has admitted that the poor start to the season has put McClaren into a difficult position.

He said:
For him (McClaren), it is hard as well.
He came in the summer with a lot of ambitions.
We bought some new players in and we all expected more from the start of the season.
It’s disappointing and I understand it but there are still 24 games to go.
The Dutchman believes that Newcastle can still fight their way out of trouble, despite their recent abysmal form.

It is not over still. We have enough chances.
We have to put it right quickly.
Janmaat was speaking at the Football Writers’ Awards, where he won the trophy for North East player of the year, and the 26-year-old was delighted to pick up the award:
It’s a big thing for me
I always work hard and when you get something like this back, it’s really nice.
It’s great for me and a lot of great names have won this award, like (Alan) Shearer and (Peter) Beardsley, some of the biggest names to have played for the club. I’m really proud of it.
