Infamous bad-boy Kieron Dyer has spoken out about the loyalty of the Magpies’ fans. The former midfield ace opened up to I’m A Celebrity star, and Geordie girl, Vicky Pattinson over the night he crashed his Ferrari on the Swing Bridge.
Dyer stated:
I was about 23 it was a Sunday night and I am doing laps around the Quayside giving it large, showing off and I came round a bend turning right and the car started spinning out of control and it smashed into the bridge, the airbags popped out and everything.
Just two weeks before he wrote off his £103k car, Dyer had been fined for doing 80mph in a 50 zone.
Looking back at the incident, in which one passenger was hurt, Dyer said:
All of a sudden some guys started dragging me out of the car and told me to run for it as they thought I’d been drinking. They said ‘run, run, run, we’ll take the rap for you, we’ll say we stole your car.’ That’s how loyal Geordies are.
Tyneside’s current crop of stars probably wouldn’t get the same treatment then England international Dyer did, having won just two fixtures in the Premier League this season and showing no signs of fighting spirit for the badge, the club or the fans.
