Newcastle manager Steve McClaren is set to recall striker Adam Armstrong from his loan spell at Coventry City, and put him straight into the first-team squad, according to Jason Mellor of the Daily Star.
The terms of the loan agreement that sent Armstrong to Coventry don’t allow Newcastle to recall the 18-year-old until mid-January, but when that date arrives, it looks like he could return to St James’ Park.

Armstrong has been in fine goalscoring form since moving to the Ricoh Arena in July. The England u19 international has found the back of the net 12 times in 16 appearances for the Sky Blues and is currently League One’s top goalscorer.
Newcastle have failed to score in seven of their league games this campaign, and they have registered just 13 goals in 13 games, with six of those coming in the 6-2 triumph over Norwich City in mid-October.
With his side badly struggling for goals, McClaren is ready to place his faith in Armstrong by giving the in-form Geordie youngster a shot in the Magpies’ first team.
