Struggling Newcastle United have been linked with a move to replace manager Steve McClaren with AC Milan legend Clarence Seedorf, after reportedly holding “secret talks” with the Dutchman.
The Magpies have endured a heavily disappointing start to the campaign, and sit 17th in the table after winning just two of their opening 13 Premier League games.
According to Calciomercato, talks have been held between Newcastle and Seedorf, who, despite having little experience as a manager, is still highly regarded throughout the footballing world after a sparkling playing career.
Seedorf only lasted a few months in charge of AC Milan in 2014, but was dismissed rather harshly after achieving a respectable 50% win percentage during his tenure.

The potential appointment of Seedorf, who scored 135 goals in 889 appearances throughout his career, could be a shrewd one for Newcastle to make, with the chance of playing under of Europe’s finest players a huge selling-point for the Magpies’ transfer targets.
Saturday’s embarrassing collapse at home to Leicester City seemed to be the last straw for many Newcastle fans, who directed a hefty chorus of boos at McClaren and his players following the final whistle.

A poll on the Evening Chronicle’s website earlier this week showed that 87 per cent of fans no longer have faith that the former England manager can turn things around.
The club aren’t likely to sack McClaren anytime soon, despite the poor start. But, should Newcastle remain in a similarly precarious position later on in the season, the club may feel the need to enforce a managerial change to avoid missing out on next year’s weighty Premier League TV windfall.
