Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen to extend Mike Williamson’s loan spell after the defender’s impressive run of form for the Championship side.
Williamson moved to Molineux on a one-month loan deal from Newcastle at the end of October, and the 32-year-old’s arrival has sparked a significant improvement in Wanderers’ defensive fortunes.
Wolves have conceded just one goal in the three games Williamson has started since his switch – and manager Kenny Jackett has been delighted with the 6ft 4in Englishman’s impact.
I’ve been very pleased with him and we’ll be keen to extend it (his deal). He’s made a good start, he’s really pulled the back four together and we’ve needed that. We haven’t spoken to Newcastle yet but we’ll certainly be speaking to them and the player.

Newcastle have kept consecutive clean sheets in their last three games and, with Jamaal Lascelles creeping ahead of Williamson in Steve McClaren’s pecking order, it’s unlikely that the divisive defender’s services will be required at St.James Park for the remainder of the campaign.
Williamson’s Newcastle contract ends this summer and the club are expected to end the former Wycombe Wanderers defender’s five-year stay on Tyneside.
