Newcastle United are eager to sign a striker in the January transfer window and Bleacher Report insider Dean Jones claims that West Brom forward Saido Berahino is the Magpies’ number one target.
Berahino caught the eye by netting an impressive 20 goals in all competitions for The Baggies last season – and the ambitious young Englishman has made no secret of his desire to leave The Hawthorns for a bigger club.

Jones reports that the Magpies attempted to sign the in-demand England u21 international during the summer, however, West Brom’s refusal to entertain any offers for their star man meant that a deal could not be struck.
Despite sources close to West Brom categorically stating that Berahino remains unavailable for sale, Newcastle believe that they have a feasible chance of luring the disgruntled striker to St.James Park with a renewed approach in the upcoming window.

Jones also poured water on recent newspaper rumours linking Geordie striker Andy Carroll with a January return to his boyhood club by articulating that a deal would not make logical sense for Newcastle at this current moment.
Newcastle are certainly open to a return at some point but right now they don’t feel that the right deal can be struck. Not only are there the financial implications of his wages and his transfer fee, but there are his injury problems and it would be a gamble. Unless West Ham let him go for a cut-price fee, I can’t see it being done.
