Magpies line up January move for Dutch star

Newcastle United are reportedly lining up a January move for exciting Ajax star Anwar El Ghazi, as head coach Steve McClaren looks to add to the Magpies’ growing Dutch contingent.

Newcastle’s poor early season form means that they find themselves lingering at the foot of the Premier League table and McClaren is acutely aware of the pressing need to add a cutting edge to his toothless Magpies side in the upcoming window, with El Ghazi emerging as a prime target.

HITC Sport claim that Newcastle have been tracking the 20-year-old for over a year and Magpies’ scouts have been hugely impressed with the gifted youngster’s recent performances.

El Ghazi has been in scintillating form for Ajax this season, notching eight goals in ten league appearances to help the Lancers reach the summit of the Eredivisie table. The wideman’s eye-catching displays at club level were rewarded by Holland manager Danny Blind in October, as the Dutch coach chose to start the effervescent winger in both of the Netherlands decisive European Championship qualifiers.

Steve McClaren’s side face a relegation battle unless they can quickly address their alarming issues in front of goal and the acquisition of the inventive El Ghazi could go some way towards remedying the Magpies’ goalscoring woes.

The Dutchman is one of the Eredivisie’s brightest stars and his recent international breakthrough means that United would have to cough up a sizeable fee in order to prize him away from the Amsterdam Arena this January.
