Newcastle United scouts are rumoured to be running the rule over Freiburg centre-back Christopher Jullien, who is currently on loan with Ligue 2 side Dijon FCO.
‘Scouts in attendance’ report that Magpies’ representatives were in the stands at the Stade Gaston Gerard yesterday, as the 22-year-old defender starred for table-toppers Dijon in a comfortable 3-1 home victory over Brest.
Standing at 6ft 5in, Jullien’s strengths are not limited to defending and the French u20 international poses a potent attacking threat from set-pieces, netting an impressive five goals in his nine appearances this campaign.
Steve McClaren is keen to bolster his Newcastle squad in the January transfer window and with widely maligned defender Mike Williamson seemingly heading for the St. James Park exit door, a new centre-back will top the former England manager’s shopping list.
It’s unlikely that the inexperienced Jullien would be thrust straight into the first-team picture, however, his potential arrival would fit Newcastle’s transfer blueprint of signing promising young talents with ‘their best years ahead of them’.
