Crystal Palace manager (and former Newcastle United boss) Alan Pardew has said he hopes The Magpies claim all three points in this weekend’s huge Wear-Tyne derby clash with Sunderland.
Pardew, who left Newcastle for Selhurst Park in January, didn’t have the best of times against Sunderland during his time on Tyneside. He won only one of the eight derbies he was in the Newcastle dugout for and lost his last four before making the switch to London.
“I certainly hope that Newcastle win”, said Pardew, when asked about the derby in a press conference ahead of Crystal Palace’s trip to Leicester City.

It’s only the start of the season, and it has great importance for where they find themselves in the league. But there’s a long, long way to go in this season.
Both have fairly new managers, in Sam’s (Allardyce) case very new. They’ll be looking to get the fans on their side.
Despite all of the criticism that Alan Pardew received while in charge of Newcastle United, you can’t help but wonder what would have happened had his record against Sunderland been better.

And Pardew conceded that his poor record was a problem.
It’s a massive win for you and the fans. Unfortunately for myself there the last three or four times it didn’t work out, and it becomes a problem.
Newcastle go into the game on Sunday with Steve McClaren hoping he can avoid a repeat of his successor’s shambolic Tyne-Wear record – and put an end to the Toon’s recent derby hurt.
