Times are tough for the Geordie faithful as their beloved Newcastle United sit rock bottom of the Premier League table – five points from safety. While it is still relatively early on in the season and there’s plenty of time for the Magpies to claw their way back out of the relegation zone, the media certainly doesn’t portray that.
In fact, the pundits and columnists are loving the downfall of the Magpies. Ex-players ranting about Newcastle’s current situation and how they ‘deserve to go down’ is almost a daily occurrence now – with the latest being Ian Wright, who recently provoked the Geordie faithful by stating they should be banned for highlighting the referees awful decisions. Quite hypocritical coming from a man once banned for damaging a referee’s dressing room after being sent off.
While some neutral pundits do speak sense when discussing Newcastle United, many jump on the Pardew bandwagon – stating things would have been better if he had stayed – before blaming Newcastle fans as they ‘hate Londoners’.
It’s time to dispel the myths.
