Championship side Queens Park Rangers have told Newcastle to forget about signing striker Charlie Austin in January, according to the Northern Echo.

Newcastle were linked with the striker throughout the summer, but the move didn’t happen as QPR demanded £15m for the striker, who is in the last year of his contract. The most that clubs were willing to pay was £12m, meaning Austin is still a QPR player.
Austin has netted seven goals for QPR this season in the Championship, with Chris Ramseys side in 11th place. QPR hoped to tie Austin down to a new deal but the player is in no rush to sort his future out before the end of the season, meaning he would be free next summer.

Newcastle will hope to offload in January as they didn’t do as much outgoing business as they would have liked and are again open to offers for striker Papiss Cisse. The sale of the striker would prompt the board to sign another striker with the Magpies expected to push for Pierre-Michel Lasogga who was targeted in August.
