Last season’s caretaker manager John Carver has questioned the ‘DNA’ of the players as they are without a win this season and more worryingly carrying on the abysmal performances from last season.
Carver was sacked at the end of last season, much to the delight of the supporters and Steve McClaren was brought in as his replacement and Carver believe nothing has changed since last season’s brush with relegation.

Having spent £52m in the summer Carver is also concerned that the club have failed to address the mental flaws within the dressing room. Talking about the season so far, Carver had this to say:
We’re seeing all of the same traits — and we’ve spent £50m, now that would concern me, It will take a while to learn about these players, especially with most of them coming in from abroad.
But the longer it goes without getting three points, the pressure really will be on, I know what it’s like.
The players they have brought in were coming in whether I was the manager, Steve McClaren was the manager or you were the manager.
A manager can only succeed if they go into the club understanding what it’s all about. Steve might have a problem with it because he’s new to it. I knew the situation and I accepted it. There is a system in place of how they do their business.
The manager has to accept that, but you can’t keep buying young players, you need a little bit of experience in the dressing-room. My biggest disappointment was that I never had a penny.
I lost two players — Santon and Mbiwa, which I agreed with — but I would have loved to have had £50m to spend, perhaps then people could have judged me.
After reading Carvers comments, it will disappoint fans who thought having McClaren on the board would mean he has some sort of say on players coming in or out, but instead the question will be asked what is McClaren on the board for? Job security maybe?
