Newcastle welcomed Chelsea to St James’ Park this evening, as Steve McClaren looked to record his first Premier League win. After a midweek defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday, the Geordie faithful were pesimistic ahead of the game and not many predicted the Magpies picking up a point today – let alone all three.
Ayoze Perez opened the scoring with a fine volley just inside the box and Newcastle fans were in euphoria. Could the long awaited first win of the season come at the most unlikely of destinations?

Georginio Wijnaldum doubled Newcastle’s lead in the second half, after he nodded past Asmir Begovic.
Sadly, Newcastle could not hold onto their lead and Chelsea clawed their way back into the game, thanks to goals from Brazilian duo Ramires and Willian.
Although it felt like two points dropped, it was an unlikely point against the Premier League champions that many would have taken before kick off.
