Former Newcastle United captain, who is currently a free agent having been released by West Ham United, believes that the Magpies will not be playing Championship football next season.
The Englishman is currently training with League 2 outfit Leyton Orient, in order to keep his fitness levels high. In the meantime, he took some time to speak about his former club on the Sky Sports Goals on Sunday TV programme.

Nolan admitted that the North East side have not had the best of starts, but is defiant in spite of the fact that Steve McClaren’s side currently sit rock bottom in the Premier League table.
“It’s not the best start for Newcastle, who are now stuck at the bottom of the table. I don’t think Steve McClaren envisaged that. I guess he wants to put his mark on the team but it’s taking more time that he probably expected.”
Since taking over at St James’ Park, the Toon have had to play Arsenal, Manchester United and Southampton – a run of fixtures that any side would perhaps struggle with.
Nolan fully expects the club to be fine however:
It’s a great football club and I have faith he will keep them in the Premier League.
