News just broke that Olympique Lyonnais have secured the signing of French U19 captain and former Newcastle player Olivier Kemen for an undisclosed fee.
Kemen didn’t register a single first-team appearance during his time on Tyneside, but many fans rated him very highly. A box-to-box central midfield player, he was reportedly frustrated at the lack of first-team football at Newcastle. Kemen was linked to the likes of AC Milan, Liverpool, Tottenham and Monaco – but he has chosen to sign for Lyon.
Let’s take a look at how the fans reacted to the news of his departure:
Kemen looked good prospect, disappointed he didn’t get chance #nufc

I won’t be getting sentimental or angered by Kemen’s departure. I trust the club in that, if he was a good player, he’d have played by now!

#Kemen had a lot of potential at u21 level but wasn’t ready for the first-team. Wants to play football. Lyon a good move. #NUFC

Kemen set to join Lyon. Very good signing. He reminds of Pogba, physically & in running style. Bravo Aulas

Why are we selling Kemen surely he’s better than Gouffran and Obertan even Tiote, give this lad a chance, highly rated in France #NUFC

Are #NUFC sure about letting Kemen go? Anita, Colback and Tiote are the only guys really ahead of him. Weird one when he’s so highly touted.

So, it’s clear to see that many Newcastle fans are anxious and are questioning the decision to let Kemen go. Only time will tell whether it comes back to bite the club!
