Newcastle secured only their second point of the season with a 0-0 draw away to Manchester United.
The Red Devils started on the front foot and could have been out of sight if it hadn’t been for some resilient defending. After their 20 minute spell of dominance, Steve McClaren came to the touchline and blasted his players for their poor display. Newcastle adjusted and came into the game.
While Manchester United will boast the largest share of the highlight reel on Match of the Day, Aleksandar Mitrovic hit the bar in the first-half and Florian Thauvin came close in the dying embers of the game. Unfortunately, the Frenchman couldn’t get enough on the ball to redirect it past David De Gea.

The wait continues for our first league win of the season, but our first competitive win under McClaren should come this Tuesday as Newcastle take on Northampton Town in the League Cup. We haven’t yet got three points on the board, but our performances have been encouraging enough to suggest we have improved upon last season.
