Newcastle recently announced the signing of Florian Thauvin from Marseille in a deal worth £13m, with Remy Cabella heading the other direction on a season-long loan deal. He became our fifth summer signing and took the club’s net spend to £50million.
Thauvin had been scouted by Graham Carr for over two years before signing for the Magpies and Carr became a keen admirer of the Frenchman. Remy Cabella, who had only been at the club for a year, has signed for Marseille on a season-long loan deal as part of the deal made for Thauvin and may not return to Tyneside due to a clause of €9million included in the loan. Football fans in France and England shared mixed opinions on Twitter about the deal.
Here are some of the reactions to the big money deal:

Worth emphasizing now it's been completed – €17m plus Cabella for Thauvin is a ridiculously good deal for Marseille

Nice to see #nufc doing business for once. Personally wouldn't of let Cabella go. But good business nonetheless. #nufc #transfercity

Another might be signing for Newcastle, Florian Thauvin might be good enough for the BPL, Cabella going in the other way, what a waste

Still feel Cabella wasn't given a chance. Always played out of position. Good luck to him

Well, there you have it. Plenty of mixed reactions on this deal, let’s hope that Thauvin can enjoy his time on Tyneside more than Cabella did and that he can prove he’s value for money.
