It is being reported by Antoine Komprobst of GetFrenchFootballNews.com that Newcastle have rejected a bid in the region of £700,000 from AS Monaco for top prospect Olivier Kemen. The Magpies are ‘open’ to selling the Frenchman, but they did not believe the Monaco offer to be anywhere near sufficient enough and they want an improved bid.
Kemen is one of the top prospects at the club, but he wants to move away in order to secure more playing time. Monaco have signed a lot of young players this summer so Kemen fits the bill as the club have changed their overall philosophy.
Newcastle have signed young players this summer, such as Chancel Mbemba, so it is clear Steve McClaren sees the need to rejuvenate the squad with young talent, however, it would appear Kemen doesn’t fit his plans as he is open to selling him.
The midfielder, formerly of Metz, captained France’s under 19 team in the summer and he stood out as a composed and powerful player in the midfield. It is no surprise to see a top French club enquiring about his services.
