Newcastle united have placed a £2m price tag on midfielder Mehdi Abeid as he is targeted by Panathinaikos as per Shields Gazette.
Abeid has been given the all clear to move on as the club have made him available for a transfer as it appears he doesn’t have what it takes to succeed on Tyneside.

Greek club Panathinaikos have shown an interest on taking Mehdi Abeid away from St James Park after he spent the 2013/2014 season with Panathinaikos.
Abeid himself will be open to the move as he hopes to kick-start his career again after struggling to get in the first team at Newcastle.

The 23-year old was linked with a move away earlier this month. Abeid actually travelled to Germany ready to discuss terms with German side Fortuna Dusseldorf, but both sides couldn’t agree terms and the deal was off and Abeid had to then return to Tyneside.
Head coach Steve McClaren said last month that he wanted a squad of up to 20 senior players once he had assessed them during pre-season.

“We’ll sit down and assess the squad and try and think about 18 or 20 players,” he said.“That’s who’ll we’ll pick from, and we’ll decide on where the others go. Some will go out on loan, some we’ll try to sell.”
The stumbling block would be Panathinaikos won’t be willing to meet Newcastle’s £2m valuation for Abeid although the player himself would welcome a move after his previous stay with the Greek club Abeid said: “I grew up as a player and as a man. I learnt a lot there.”
