Gabriel Obertan has today revealed that he does still have a future at the club according to reports in the Chronicle.
Obertan was a surprise starter last weekend for the season opener against Southampton but repaid Steve McClaren for his faith as he put in a top drawer performance.
Obertan has been rumoured with a move away from St James Park on numerous occasions but has revealed that he wants to stay after having positive talks with Steve McClaren. He said, “we had a few talks and individual meetings. I know what he expects from me. Everybody gets a fresh start. That’s what I expected from new staff with new ideas. It is a really good start for me and I am really enthusiastic for the rest of the season.”
Obertan then went on to talk about his partnership with Haidara on the left wing, he said, “we still have work to do because I am not naturally left footed. But the good relationship off the field definitely helps. Even if there are a few mistakes on the left-hand side we will keep on working.”
Meanwhile, Newcastle fringe players Yoan Gouffran and Mike Williamson are expected to depart the club this summer, according to reports, with the latter expected to be used as a makeweight in the Magpies’ move for Lewis Dunk from Brighton.
