# Ambitious Ameobi sets goal target

According to [Sports Mole](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/newcastle-united/news/ameobi-aiming-for-20-goals-at-cardiff-city_238981.html), Sammy Ameobi – who is currently on loan at Cardiff – has set an ambitious goal target for this season as he attempts to impress Steve McClaren.

The younger brother of former Newcastle player, Shola Ameobi, claims he needed a loan spell away from the club in order to further his development as a player.

He said: *“Newcastle is my home and I love the city, but I needed to get out and grow up as a footballer. I was the local kid on the block at Newcastle, but I wanted to come out and put my stamp on a new club.*

*“Cardiff City offered me the chance and I will do everything I can, on and off the pitch, to ensure I am successful. Last season I worked a lot on my body, getting stronger and I’m continuing that work. The staff have helped me get a good regime going in the gym and I am starting to see results.”*

*“There would be no point signing for Cardiff in the Championship and feeling I was too good. I want to push, I want to succeed and go back to Newcastle at the end of this season having scored 20 goals.”*

In his first 2 games for the South Wales side, Ameobi has played in more central position, which is not what he was used to playing at Newcastle, where he was used on the wings. It’s safe to say that 20 goals is a big ask for the player, considering he has only registered 2 goals in 53 appearances for parent club Newcastle – but it’s good to see he’s showing ambition and self-belief.
