Lorient president Loic Fery has defended his valuation of Raphael Guerreiro, who is allegedly a target for Newcastle United as well as other clubs in Ligue 1 and La Liga.
However, he’s being valued at €12.5million (£8.8 million) by his president, who compared him to other top, young full-backs plying their trade in Ligue 1, players who are going for much higher prices than he is.
Speaking to L’Equipe, but quoted by the Newcastle Chronicle, the president of Lorient said, “I don’t need to explain why we want €12.5m when Kurzawa and Digne are valued today at €25m. No one [is] untransferable, but at a fair price.”
Guerreiro is also reportedly being targeted by Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid, but Newcastle offering to pay the full transfer fee upfront could see them fend off the strong competition. Were he to sign for The Magpies, he’d become the fifth signing of the summer after Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Chancel Mbemba and Ivan Toney.
The 21-year-old played 34 games in Ligue 1 last season, scoring 7 times, and played 65 minutes of Lorient’s opening day game against Lyon at the weekend.
