Sissoko to be offered new deal

After months of speculation and uncertainty, Moussa Sissoko is expected to sign a new long-term deal with Newcastle, according to Miles Starforth of the Shields Gazette.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham have all been heavily linked with moves for £17million-rated Sissoko this summer while Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have expressed an interest in the past. Despite the intense speculation surrounding his future, Steve McClaren is yet to receive a formal offer for Sissoko and hopes a new and improved deal will keep the 25-year-old focused on Newcastle.

Steve McClaren spoke of Sissoko’s importance in the build-up to tomorrow’s season opener against Southampton and intends to build a team around the Frenchman.

“We can’t lose Moussa,” McClaren said. “I’ve said to [managing director] Lee Charnley ‘we’ve got to keep this guy.’ I want him to be the main focus of our team.”

Sissoko arrived on Tyneside back in January 2013 and put pen-to-paper on a six-and-a-half year deal, which is due to expire in July 2019. Even though he does have four years remaining on his current contract, the new deal should extend his stay for another season, as well as vastly improving his wages.

Since signing for Newcastle, Sissoko has made 94 appearances for the club, netting 11 times (and assisting 11) in the process.
