# Coloccini wants to retire at Newcastle

Club captain Fabricio Coloccini has reportedly said that he wants to ‘finish his career’ at Newcastle, writes the [Shields Gazette](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/fabricio-coloccini-i-want-to-finish-my-career-at-newcastle-1-7389411).

The 33-year-old Argentinian has been linked with a move away from Tyneside, with Crystal Palace and Olympiakos showing interest. However, the club is unwilling to sell the centre-back, who has been at the club for 7 years, since joining from Deportivo La Coruña for £10m

Newcastle manager Steve McClaren has been quoted in saying; “he’s been seven years at Newcastle. He’s coming to the end of his career, and he waves to finish it here.”

“I know there’s been a lot of speculation, but my indication is that he wants to stay here and take the club forward.”

McClaren has refused to rule out the possibility of Coloccini starting the season opener against Southampton, despite him not playing a single pre-season game. He said; “We’ll assess him each day and see how he trains. A lot of them still need work and minutes. We have to get working pretty quick.”

So it looks like Coloccini will be staying with the club, at least until his contract runs out at the end of they year.
