Following the departure of versatile midfielder/defender Ryan Taylor on a free transfer, Steve McClaren will be looking for a new set piece specialist to accept the responsibility of free-kick taking this season.
Jack Colback has been used for free-kicks and corners throughout pre-season though it is more than likely that Siem de Jong, and potentially new boy Georginio Wijnaldum, will provide stiff competition for the role. One name that the Geordie faithful and McClaren probably wouldn’t have considered for the role is Remy Cabella (referred to as the French magician by commentator Steven Taylor).
The Frenchman arrived on Tyneside last summer after Newcastle agreed a £12million fee with Montpellier. Though Remy failed to replicate the fine form he enjoyed at the Ligue 1 outfit, he did show glimpses of his full potential – something that Newcastle fans are eagerly anticipating this season. But, would Cabella be a wise choice as the designated free-kick taker?
Well, here is how he got on when he went head-to-head with Jack Colback in a free-kick challenge for 138.com.
Warning: It’s not a pretty sight.
