Newcastle have conceded defeat in their efforts to sign Florian Thauvin from Marseille this summer.
According to RMC Sport, the 22-year-old French international winger has decided to stay put in Ligue 1, despite strong interest from several Premier League clubs.
Thauvin has been a long-time target for Newcastle, and had offered €17m to sign him from Marseille, and a ‘very substantial financial offer’ in terms of a contract to the player for him to join.
Aston Villa were also very interested in Thauvin, who’s also been linked with West Ham, but the player has decided that the Premier League is not for him.
This goes against the grain of Marseille players this summer, as key first-teamers such as Dimitri Payet, Rod Fanni, Andre Ayew and Andre -ierre Gignac have all left this summer for financial benefits outside of France.
