Newcastle are in the crowded race to sign free agent winger Bakary Sako this summer, according to ESPN.
Steve McClaren will have to fend off significant interest from several other Premier League sides if he’s to sign the Malian international, as West Brom, Leicester, Aston Villa and now Bournemouth have all shown interest.
The 27-year-old left Wolves this summer following the expiry of his contract, and was quite sought after at Saint Etienne before he move to the Midlands, rejecting West Ham in favour of the then Championship side, only to be relegated again that season.
Understandably so, Sako began to tear apart the lower reaches of English football, as you’d expect from a player of his comparable quality.
Sako scored 12 goals and recorded 15 assists during Wolves’ promotion campaign from League One in 2013/14, and netted 15 times and assisted seven times last season in the Championship, believing that would be enough to get him a much-awaited move to the Premier League.
Having rejected several offers from European clubs for his signature, Sako hopes a Premier League side will offer him a worthwhile contract in the coming weeks.
