Newcastle are showing an interest in Italian striker Stefano Okaka of Sampdoria, reports Gazzetta TV.
Steve McClaren is looking to bolster his striking options this summer and, as well as signing Aleksandar Mitrovic, would be interested in landing Okaka.
It is believed the Serie A outfit are open to a sale and he would be available for a cut-price due to his contract expiring next summer, but Okaka is holding out for the right move. The Italian forward rejected the chance to join Watford last week.
The former Fulham loanee could be an astute signing for Newcastle as he is great at holding up the ball and could thrive in a system where the likes of Rolando Aarons and Remy Cabella are playing just off him.
Though the exact asking price remains unknown, Okaka could well be a very cost effective player for Newcastle, but the biggest concern for Newcastle when considering a move is his goal return. The 25-year-old netted just four times in 26 league starts for the club last season – an incredibly poor return for a striker.
Newcastle already have one striker who struggles to find the back of the net (Manu), do they really need another?
