There’s been a lot of talk surrounding ins and outs at Newcastle and with Wijnaldum signing for £14.5 million, the fans can now relax and be more confident about our transfer activity for the rest of the summer window. So with that being said, let’s round up the latest news surrounding the club recently.
Aleksandar Mitrovic’s agent Piri Zahavi landed on Tyneside with a deal in the region of £12m apparently close for the Serbian prospect. Both Roma and Porto have been pursuing him, with interest from Benfica and Spurs dying down in recent weeks. This is looking increasingly likely that Mitrovic could become our second signing of the summer, with a five-year-deal on the table, according to the Mirror.
They also report that the spending will not stop there, with Charlie Austin and Florian Thauvin still on the clubs radar. QPR will not budge from ther £15m asking price for Austin, and there has been talk that recently injured Remy Cabella could be involved in a swap deal for Thauvin.
There are also reports that the club are eyeing a move for promising centre half from Stuttgart, Antonio Rüdiger, with the club needing more strength in their defensive positions. Rüdiger has already been capped 6 times for World Cup winners Germany at the age of just 22. The club are hopeful he will choose them over Wolfsburg.
Regarding the sale of players, there is news that the club are willing to let last years unconvincing captain Fabricio Coloccini go, if the right offer comes along for him.
There has been a change of heart from the club regarding goalkeeper Tim Krul with the Dutchman being offered a contract extension.
Slovenian attacking midfielder Haris Vuckic is likely to leave after years of inconsistency, with Bolton leading the chase for his signature.
It’s safe to say this summer has been busy in terms of rumours, but with the massive signing of Georginio Wijnaldum, the ‘new era’ of Steve McClaren looks set to kick on in the next few weeks.
