Newcastle United are the only club willing to meet Anderlecht’s asking price for Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to Belgian media outlet HLN.
Reports state that Portuguese clubs Benfica and Porto and Italy’s Roma have failed to meet the 20-year-old’s £12.7 million asking price.
With the above clubs not wanting to pay the required price for him, it seemingly puts the Magpies in pole position to acquire the striker’s services.
Newcastle have been targeting a striker for quite a while now and they have already lost out on Spanish striker Juanmi to Southampton.
Another player they were linked with, Troy Deeney, has signed a long-term contract with Watford and while interest in Queens Park Rangers’ Charlie Austin remains, the club face stiff competition from a number of Premier League clubs for his signature.
It now seems that Steve McClaren is targeting the Serbian international Mitrovic, who featured in the Champions League last season.
Mitorvic is a highly-rated forward and was named the ‘Golden player’ of the European U19s Championship in 2013, which Serbia won.
