Sunderland do not hold an interest in signing Georginio Wijnaldum which means Newcastle United’s chances of signing the PSV Eindhoven player have been given a boost, according to Ross Gregory of the Shields Gazette.
It was initially reported that Dick Advocaat’s team made a bid for the Holland international but those reports were wide off the mark as The Black Cats have no interest in the player, according to the Gazette.
However, the Magpies on the other hand are still keen on bringing the playmaker to St. James’ Park, while West Ham are also considering a move.
Wijnaldum captained his team to the Eredivisie title last season and has been tipped to follow his former teammate Memphis Depay in a move abroad.
The 24-year-old made his debut for Feyenoord when he was just 16 and went on to play over 100 matches for them.
From there, he moved to PSV and established himself as a key member of the team.
