Newcastle United are not targeting Derby County defender Richard Keogh, according to Lee Ryder of the Chronicle.
It was reported by several news outlets that Newcastle were hoping to sign the 28-year-old and set up a reunion with manager Steve McClaren, but this does not seem to be the case as the Magpies are pursuing other targets.
Newcastle have already missed out on Micah Richards to Aston Villa and defender Mike Williamson has been linked with a move away from St. James’ Park. They are eyeing a number of players to come in with Schalke player Joel Matip being one of them.
It is thought that Graham Carr’s scouting team at Newcastle have made it their objectives to recruit players who are on the verge of the peak years of their career.
Steve McClaren will assess his squad when they report for pre-season duty in the coming weeks.
