According to French source La Provence, Marseille attacker Florian Thauvin is set to leave the club this month with interest from the Premier League.
The 22-year-old, who can play on the wing or behind the striker, was subject to a bid today from an unnamed Premier League club, amid interest from Newcastle, as well as Premier League rivals West Ham and Tottenham.
Thauvin, a France U21 international, was reportedly the subject of an enquiry from the Toon last week after Marseille President Vincent Labrune came out and said that there were offers of several players, including Thauvin.
“We have offers for several players,” Labrune told RMC. “If we have an offer that we like, we will open the door.
“We have never had as many offers for as many players as we do now. Thauvin, Imbula and Payet have a lot of offers.”
It’s believed that Newcastle are the team that have made the mystery bid for the player, who they have been tracking for some time. Newcastle failed with a bid to sign Thauvin back in January 2013 before the player signed for Lille from SC Bastia, but have continued to track the player ever since.
Thauvin made 38 appearances last season for Marseille in all competitions, scoring five goals and recording eight assists. He would certainly add some much needed creativity to our attacking third.
