Newcastle United have held advanced talks with Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost, who is confirmed to be leaving the club this summer.
According to various reports, the club will face stiff competition for Dost’s signature, with German giants Borussia Dortmund also interested in the Dutchman, who have failed to replace Robert Lewanwoski as the Polish forward joined arch rivals Bayern Munich.
It is believed that Newcastle have agreed a provisional fee of roughly £9million with Wolfsburg, but the fee could be raised even higher if interest in Dost becomes stronger from a number of different clubs.
Steve McClaren has discussed a potential transfer with both Dost and Wolfsburg, while the former England boss is also looking to bring in QPR hitman Charlie Austin, with the hope the two will become strike partners.
Dost has been a long term target for Newcastle, with renowened club scout Graham Carr a big fan of the 26-year-old.
Meanwhile, the Magpies have missed out on the potential signature of André-Pierre Gignac, with the Frenchman signing for Mexican side UANL Tigres.
