Newcastle United are preparing a bid for Watford striker Troy Deeney, according to the Daily Mail.
The Magpies are actively looking for a proven goalscorer and their search has led them to Deeney but, if they were to follow up their interest and submit a bid for him, it would have to be circa £10million as per Watford’s valuation of the player.
The 26-year-old was in brilliant goal scoring form last season as he netted 21 times in 42 appearances for Watford in the Championship. The former Walsall player’s goals were a huge contribution to Watford’s promotion to the Premier League.
Deeney was targeted by Steve McClaren once before when he tried to recruit him for Derby County.
Newcastle have already missed out on Juanmi to Southampton and another target of theirs, Charlie Austin, is attracting interest from Liverpool. McClaren will want to tie up a deal for one his targets sooner rather than later. Newcastle have also been linked with Wolfsburg forward Bas Dost and former player Andy Carroll.
