International round up

The Toon Army enjoyed some international football around the globe in the previous few days.

Mehdi Abeid made his international debut for Algeria, with the 22-year-old coming on as a substitute in the second half during a 4-0 win. The midfielder was glad to finally make an appearance for Les Verts, having been called up to the squad in January but had to pull out due to injury. He will be eager to help Algeria qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations nonetheless.

Daryl Janmaat also featured as a substitute, featuring for Holland in a 2-0 away victory at Latvia. The Dutch however still have some work to do if they are to secure qualification to the European Championships next summer.

Goalkeeper Tim Krul was on the bench for the entirety of the match. Moussa Sissoko also sat out his country’s game and the midfielder could only witness the French suffer a shock defeat against Albania in a friendly.

Likewise, Shane Ferguson also did not get an opportunity to play for his national team. Despite travelling with the Northern Irish, he could only watch them draw 0-0 at home to Romania. Paul Dummett’s hamstring injury also meant that he could not get on the field for his Wales side, who managed a terrific victory over Belgium.
