Newcastle United are closing in on the £9m signing of Dutch striker Bas Dost from Wolfsburg, according to the Mirror and L’Equipe.
A run of 14 goals in 9 games helped fire his side to second place in the Bundesliga, and he also netted in the final of the German Cup, helping his side defeat Borussia Dortmund comfortably 4-1.
Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs insisted the Dutch striker was happy at the Volkswagen Arena yesterday, but now it seems interest from England may have turned his head.
The 26-year-old is reportedly prepared to put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal, after Newcastle reportedly made a £9million for the 6ft5 frontman.
Dost earnt his first two caps for his national side in March, on the back of an extraordinary run for his club side.
He is also subject to interest from Southampton, but the new Magpies boss Steve McClaren is keen to get a deal done and pair Bas Dost with Ayoze Perez up front for Newcastle next season – with some news outlets suggesting he could be unveiled before Friday.
Wolfsburg have already signed an adequate replacement in the shape of Max Kruse, but some news outlets are still suggesting the German outfit are considering a move for Mario Mandzukic.
