Newcastle United, fresh from appointing a new manager, are targeting Hull City winger Thomas Ince, according to Sky Sports.
The Magpies face competition from Championship side Derby County, the club with whom he spent the last four months on loan at. The England under-21 international impressed in that loan spell with 11 goals in 18 games. The sort of form did not go unnoticed as new manager Steve McClaren seeks to strengthen his squad with the purchase of the winger.
Ince’s arrival could spell an end to Sammy Ameobi’s time on Tyneside, as the 23-year-old would drop further down the pecking order. Although Newcastle have tabled a contract extension to the academy graduate, Sammy would reject their proposal if first-team football could not be guaranteed.
Ince has moved to several clubs since leaving Liverpool and has not established himself as a starter in any one team. It is believed Hull City are holding out for a bid that meets their valuation – expected to be in the region of £6million.
With owner Mike Ashley’s backing, the former England manager is set to invest in his new squad. McClaren had this to say upon his arrival: “If we can get the right recruitment and we get the right resources as well, this club can take off.
“There is a lot of work to do, but the club has made it clear about wanting success, and I would not have come here if I didn’t believe they were serious.”
