Newcastle United will make their minds up about the identity of John Carver’s successor within the next fortnight.
According to the BBC’s Ben Smith, Lee Charnley is conducting thorough due diligence on a short-list of four candidates – including Patrick Vieira, Steve McClaren, Remi Garde and one other – expected to be Michael Laudrup. The appointment is expected to be made by the end of next week.
Vieira will meet with Newcastle’s representatives within the next 48 hours to discuss his terms, as well as the club’s expectations. While, another meeting with Steve McClaren is penciled in for later this week.
The one-time bookies favourite to become the latest head coach appointment, Remi Garde has previously confessed a confidentiality agreement with Newcastle, back in January.
“I do not close the door to anything or to take another year off, or, to dive into a project that would suit me,” he said.
“I have a duty of confidentiality in this matter to Newcastle, I will be very honest with respect to the leaders of Newcastle, I can’t say more.”
Despite his promising comments, rumours that surfaced late last week suggest the Frenchman is unlikely to sign as he is unable to bring his favoured backroom staff to Tyneside. If the club move from their stance, a deal could be struck.
