Newcastle United plan to speak with Patrick Vieira early next week about becoming their new head coach, according to Sky Sports.
Managing director Lee Charnley will be looking to find out whether the Frenchman is interested taking over from interim boss John Carver.
Senior figures at St James’ Park rate him highly and reckon Vieira could be the right man to take the club forward. Over the past few weeks, Graham Carr and Lee Charnley have analysed his situation and are now hoping to appoint him as their new head coach.
Newcastle are hoping to tempt the former Arsenal man to Tyneside with a big contract, with lucrative bonus scheme should he meet the club’s expectations.
In the past, managerial targets have had to inspire the squad without spending, due to a lack of investment from the chairman. However, Mike Ashley has announced he will be investing in the club this summer.
In an interview ahead of Newcastle’s final day relegation decider with West Ham, Ashley declared: “I will continue the policy of investing in the football club.”
“We have got the club on a very sound financial footing, so we are able to spend and punch above our weight thanks to the current financial situation the club finds itself in. We may have the cart, financially, but we now need to bolt the horse on, and we are going to.”
