Newcastle are looking to sign as many as six players in this summer’s transfer window, with owner Mike Ashley looking to overhaul the squad that battled relegation in the latter stages of last season.
Ashley said this week, in his first ever television interview, that Newcastle were financially in a position to attract big players this summer and has given the club the go-ahead for moves for players like Danny Ings. However, any moves will be put on hold until the appointment of a permanent head coach has been made official.
One man who will not be coming in, according to The Chronicle, is Anderlecht’s Aleksander Mitrovic. It is thought that the Serbian striker would not meet the requirements in terms of personality that the club are looking for, but Ings and QPR striker Charlie Austin are both firmly on their radar.
The Magpies will also look at deals similar to the one that saw Ayoze Perez move to St. James’ Park, which has been a resounding success. After moving from Tenerife as a relatively unknown player last summer, the 21-year-old cemented himself as one of Newcastle’s most threatening frontmen, scoring 7 goals in the process.
There is a concern about the quality of the players coming through the youth system, with Shane Ferguson, Haris Vuckic and Gael Bigirimana all free to leave this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements.
One youngster who will be kept by the club, though, is Adam Armstrong. The 18-year-old is seen as one of the hottest prospects at the club and, to further develop his game, is likely to be loaned out next season.
