Sammy Ameobi has been offered a contract extension by Newcastle United.
The 23-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the month and, following the announcement of Ryan Taylor and Jonas Gutierrez leaving the club, many expected Sammy to follow suit. However, due to the inflated price-tags of British players and the club struggling to meet the homegrown quota, a new deal has been tabled.
Ameobi putting pen to paper is far from guaranteed as the academy graduate has attracted attention from West Bromwich Albion, as well as several Championship sides, over the past few months. Due to his contractual situation, he is free to enter discussions with any potential suitors.
Meanwhile, the club have also confirmed Jak Alnwick, Adam Campbell and Remie Streete will follow Ryan Taylor and Jonas Gutierrez out the door.
While Facundo Ferreyra has returned to Shakhtar Donetsk after the end of his season-long loan spell at Newcastle. The Argentine striker returns to Ukraine without making a single appearance for the Newcastle first-team. Simply put; Ferreyra’s loan was a gamble that didn’t pay off.
