Ahead of a summer of change at St. James’ Park, two signings from last summer are keen to stay and help the Magpies improve, according to The Chronicle.
The players in question are Remy Cabella and Southampton target Daryl Janmaat, who experienced completely different debut campaigns in the Premier League.
Cabella, who signed from Montpellier for an undisclosed fee (expected to be around £12million) in July, has struggled with the physical demands of the Premier League and has been largely inconsistent, only showing what he is capable of in brief spells.
In contrast, Janmaat enjoyed an impressive campaign and is in the conversation for Newcastle’s player of the season. The Dutchman, primarily a full-back, has filled in at centre-back at times this season, due to a number of suspensions and injuries within the squad.
With their futures seemingly in doubt for differing reasons, both players are reportedly looking forward to next season, even after dealing with a relegation battle in the latter stages of the season. The duo are hopeful of helping Newcastle kick on and challenge higher up the table next year.
Recently, Moussa Sissoko also pledged his future to the club, insisting he is looking forward to taking a step forward with the club next season, amid speculation linking him with several top European clubs.
