Racing de Santander youngster David Concha has visited Tyneside ahead of a summer move to Newcastle United, according to The Journal.
The 18-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Tyneside over the past six months and could be available for as little as £2million this summer, due to Racing’s financial position. Concha has also attracted interested from Real Betis and Valencia, but the Magpies remain confident of landing the young Spaniard.
As it stands, the Spanish outfit are only out of the Segunda Division’s drop zone on goal difference but, due to the club’s financial mismanagement, their existence is under threat – forcing them to cash-in on Concha, and any other sellable assets, this window.
Graham Carr will be hoping Concha can emulate the success of his fellow compatriot Ayoze Perez, who arrived on Tyneside last summer for a fee of £1.6million. He netted seven times in his debut season and was widely regarded as one the signings of the season.
Sporting Gijon centre-back Jorge Mere has also been linked with a move to Newcastle in the past, although the rumours have petered out in recent weeks. Graham Carr will be keen to bolster the Magpies’ defensive options this summer window, following the departures of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Davide Santon last January, and could turn to the young Spaniard.
