Newcastle secured their place in the Premier League with a 2-0 win at home to West Ham United. Luke Taylor takes a look at what we learnt from today’s result:
Jonas Gutierrez is incredible on the ball
Today, we witnessed some dribbling expertise from the Argentinian. He was taking men on left, right and centre providing entertainment for all Newcastle United fans watching. An incredible story of an incredible man topped off with a goal in the last game of the season. Jonas was our best performer today, he was magnificent.
Emmanuel Riviere can do a lot…apart from hit the net
Bless him. He seems to do everything but put the ball beyond the keeper and into the goal. Riviere manages to hold up the ball well, he has great strength. A unit. With this he is able to bring others into play but he struggles when in front of goal. He also works hard, chasing down defenders. He did this all day against West Ham. He played well, he just couldn’t score. This is season is a right off; hopefully he collects more goals next season.

The Newcastle fans are fairly loud
Previous weeks, the atmosphere has been dead. Probably due to the performances on the pitch being awful, the fans were drained. But today, they were loud and proud. Not just sections of St James Park, everyone got involved. Chants and chants, the atmosphere was electric. A smoke bomb was even set off when Moussa Sissoko scored.
Vurnon Anita can be decent when he wants
This man provided us with a solid performance in the midfield today. He covered every blade of grass, intercepting passes and tackling whilst also playing the ball well. Despite his burst into the West Ham half, one on one when he tried to square but Arian intercepted; he was excellent. He deserves the all the credit he is given, if not more.

Don’t listen to fellow fans reporting scores when in a relegation scrap
A roar went up mid game when a certain ‘joker’ decided to spread Manchester United had scored against Hull, which of course, could have cemented Newcastle’s position in the Premier League even more. However, this was not the story. It was 0-0, Hull had two goals disallowed whilst Manchester United had Marouane Fellaini sent off. This proves that, on a final day when relegation is near, you can’t listen to people you don’t feel reliable. Only believe it until a reliable source tells you, like Sky Sports.
